Microchipping

Microchipping is a quick, cost-effective method of providing permanent identification for both indoor and outdoor pets. You never know when your pet will make a quick dash out of the front door or out of your fenced yard because of loud noises or bad weather. Before you know it, your pet is out of sight, confused, scared, and hiding from everyone. Instead of having to worry about whether or not their collar and tag will stay on them so that you can be contacted, have your pet microchipped and put yourself at ease. You can have your pet microchipped during any visit to Hammond Animal Hospital and Pet Lodge.

A microchip is a small device, about the size of a grain of rice, that is inserted under the skin between your pet’s shoulder blades. The chip bears a registration number and phone number of the registry for the particular brand of chip. It is standard practice at all animal shelters and veterinary offices to scan stray pets for a microchip as soon as they are found. They can then contact the registry to get your name and phone number.

Our veterinarian highly recommends microchipping your indoor and outdoor pets. We use nationally recognized Home Again microchips. Once we have registered your pet’s microchip in Home Again’s database, you will be required to keep your contact information and address updated. We love happy endings to stories about lost pets, so please consider microchipping your pet today.
